OS X |
The best OS in the world right now. If youve got a Mac you should be using Panther - its worth every penny. if youre not a Mac user, youve got more problems and an OS upgrade aint gonna solve em ;~).d

Apple do it again!! |
After praising Jaguar last year, I didnt think as a new Mac user that it would be possible to go beyond the achievements of that release for a while. How wrong! With Panther (10.3) Apple have redefined operating systems upgrades: they have added over 150 new enhancements and increased stability and speed (and interface) too. Being a Linux and Windows user historically, the transition to Mac-centric thinking was surprisingly painless. Using the new user focused Finder makes finding files and managing your applications and folders real easy. Add to that network browsing in the Finder and you have a very functional "explorer" beater. What I have found most surprising are: (1) Expose- a fantastic trick that lets you shrink or re-prioritise open application windows so that you can manage desktop space better; (2) Stability- in Panther Apple have taken the word and given it the intended meaning. Other operating systems only dream at this time of real functional stability, but the Mac offfers it here and now; (3) Safari- wow! A browser that has finally made me ditch IE. It is smooth, very fast, and extremely useful (tabbed browsing, and with Safari 1.2 update has added download resume etc); (4) Unix- for someone who has come from a Linux background this is a real bonus. Panther uses the BSD5 series kernel and it shows. Not only that, I have X11 running, Open Office and a host of other open source applications on top of Aqua (the Mac OS X interface); and yes, (5) Aqua! Lush. Smooth. Reactive. Stable. The best GUI on any platform. I could list more but youll get the picture. This is a top class upgrade for Jagua users and a great move for those migrating from other platforms. Im not a convert now, Im an advocate! You will not be sad that you parted with your cash for this one at all!!!

Just when I thought it couldnt any better |

Ive had my i-mac for two years running osx 10.1 and could not fault the os in any I still cant understand why so many people still use windows when their life could be so much easier...I decided to upgrade to panther when i got my i-pod at christmas. As it comes with the new i-sync software.I went for the straight upgrade keeping all my old programs and software. It did take about 2 hours to load. But what a diffrence it runs a lot quicker. It also sorted out all my ADSL problems I had with my modem its made my broadband conection a lot Quicker. I would highly recommend Panther to anyone running 10.1 like myself. Its like owning a New Mac.....
